Sarah McFarland's career has come full circle.

Now she's ready for her next challenge.

McFarland accepted the volleyball head-coaching job at her alma mater Michigan City on Wednesday, which adds to her expanding list of experience.

McFarland was approved at the Michigan City School Board meeting on Tuesday night and was formally introduced at a press conference at the high school on Wednesday morning.

McFarland is a 1997 Michigan City graduate and was a member of the 1995 state championship volleyball team.

"I was very excited to come home again and to be back in the high school," McFarland said. "I liked college coaching a lot but there were aspects of it I didn't like. And my favorite part about it was being in the gym and obviously in high school that's what you're doing. You get to be in the gym a lot. There's not recruiting and being gone every weekend flying somewhere different."

McFarland takes over for Vera Jones, who resigned last month. Jones coached the Wolves for four seasons, winning two sectional titles.

After graduating from Michigan City, McFarland graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, playing Division-I volleyball and earning a bevy of accolades, including being named a two-time volleyball All-American in 1999 and 2000 as well as the NCAA national record holder for average kills per game from 1999 to the present. She was a USA volleyball national team member in 2001, too.
