Jan. 25, 2008

Throughout the season, women's rowing captains Marni Hietbrink, Alli Mitrovich, and Sydney Johnson will be checking in to provide fans with an exclusive insider's perspective of what it's like to be a student-athlete at LMU.

To start off the spring semester of 2008, we returned a week early from winter break to get back into the swing of things before classes started up again. With each session, progress was made and the rhythm was coming back smoothly. By the end of the first week back the boat was running along so fast nothing could get in our way ... except for the dead seagull that got caught under the rudder of the JV boat!!! (wrong place and wrong time for poor Mr Seagull). On a livelier note, at practice this past Monday morning, we were able to witness another form of marine life. A pod of dolphins swam along side our boats as we travelled the length of the marina. Their playful antics distracted us only momentarily, before we were motivated once again to "get after it".

All three of the eights (V, 2V, Lt) challenged one another on Monday morning and with each piece the boats got faster through our application of the power per stroke drills we had been doing prior. With only five weeks left until our first race, we are excited about what is to come in these next few weeks. Bring on the 2k erg test!

Until next weeks rowing adventures, these are your captains, over and out.
